Spring Has Sprung
To celebrate the season we might all have to buy our own Easter Eggs this year. The chocolate kind is of course easily available. But I usually do some egg decorating of my own and would be going downto a craft superstore. However, with this sort of shop shut at the moment, I am going to turn to a well-known internet shopping service to get my eggs.
I have a twisted willow in my garden which gets cut down at this time of year and I always save a few branches to decorate. The big advantage of using willow is that if you put your cut branches in a vase they will come into leaf when spring comes in. When it comes to readings, the Rune associated most with spring is Beorc. This rune is associated with fertility and birth as well as the birch tree, making birch water or Birch sap a popular drink for this time of year.
It is traditionally drawn in early spring as this is the time of year when the birch trees who have stored all their nutrients through the long winter releases them when their sap starts to rise again as the trees wake from their long winter sleep. Once only available in Northern Europe and China, now it is easy to come by here in the UK.
When it comes to the Tarot there are of course four suits: Wands, Cups, Coins and Swords. They are thought of as relating to Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter respectively. The Wands themselves can be seen as a branch full of spring blossom, new life. In readings, they are often seen as relating to new starts especially where communication is concerned. In the spring they take on new power as this is their time of year.
The Ace, often a sign that there is a new job coming your way.
The Two, that you are starting something new, while the Three can show that you are also turning your back on the past in order to move forwards.
The Four, I often find showing a move of some sort in your life – often a move of house, sometimes a change of job.
Whereas the Five is about the struggle it can take to move forwards.
The Six shows us and our companions on the path, heading towards success with good friends at our side.
While the Seven relates more to a struggle you undergo alone but that you should not worry for you are capable and can defy the odds.
The Eight is about communication, especially new communication, different sorts of communication.
The Nine depicts us as someone who has been through a lot, a long hard winter perhaps but has emerged triumphant, whereas the Ten shows us taking on new responsibilities of all sorts but especially it is connected to work.
